



Complete ResultsSpringfield, Mass. -- October 6, 2011 -- Sam Carney and Jen Cleary led the Springfield College women's tennis team to a 9-0 victory over Rhode Island College this afternoon in non-conference play at SC's Appleton Courts. The win allowed Springfield to raise its record to 3-5 overall.
RIC falls to 1-12. Springfield has now won three of its last four outings.
Sam Carney, a junior from Franklin, Mass., won her singles match at No. 1 over Chelsea Brown, 6-2, 6-1. Jen Cleary, a sophomore from Nahant, Mass., won her match at No. 2 over Gaby Batek, 6-1, 6-0.
All the singles matches were won in straight sets. Junior Erin Woodbury (Portland, Me.) won at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1. Junior Vanessa Senecal (Seekonk, Mass.) was a victor at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1. Junior Siana Green (Pomfret, Conn.) was a winner at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0. And sophomore Sydney Streimer (Mystic, Conn,.) won at No. 6 , 6-0, 6-0.
The SC doubles teams were also victorious. Carney and Cleary won at No. 1, 8-0. The duo of Senecal and Streimer were victorious at No. 2, 8-2. And senior Sarah Morgan (Wakefield, R.I.) and junior Amy Buttarazzi (Scarborough, Me.) won at No. 3, 8-0.

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his second year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
