Huntingdon, Pa. - February 25, 2012 - The Springfield College men's volleyball team bested Nazareth College in four sets in the Juniata Invitational on Saturday in what was a rematch of last year's Molten Division III National Championship match. The Pride took the Golden Flyers by the scores of 25-22, 25-15, 23-25, 25-16. SC then defeated Thiel, 3-0, by scores of 25-15, 25-15, 25-20.
Springfield, which improved to 14-5 upon completion of the day, rebounded nicely after having its 10-match winning streak snapped on Friday evening by rival Juniata. In the three sets that Springfield won over Naz, it hit at least .400.
In the victory over Nazareth, Mike Pelletier posted a match-best 15 kills, hitting .344, to go along with six digs. Alistair Matthews continued his strong play this weekend with 12 kills on 18 errorless attempts and Angel Perez added nine kills at a .500 clip. Keaton Piper racked up 41 assists as Springfield hit .388 for the match, Greg Falcone chipped in with a team-best three blocks, and Nick Ferry registered a match-high nine digs.
The Pride cruised to a three-set win over Thiel thanks to another great showing from Pelleiter as the junior outside registered 12 kills on 13 errorless swings. Matthews chipped in 10 kills and Falcone tallied six kills and five blocks. Pieper finished with 32 assists as Springfield hit .457 for the contest. Ferry recorded a team-best five digs in the win.
