Springfield, Mass. - December 7, 2013 - The Springfield College women's track & field team placed first in its indoor season opener at the Springfield College Field House on Saturday. The Pride finished with 160 points, followed by Rhode Island College with 134, WPI 133, and Westfield State 99.
Gabriella Gaudreault (Leominster, Mass.) won two individual events to lead the way as she captured the 400 meter dash in 59.03 and the 1,000 meter run in 3:08.62. Gaudreault also helped the Pride take first in the 4x200 meter relay with Katherine Saia (Wallingford, Conn.), Elizabeth Saia (Wallingford, Conn.), and Darian Dailey (East Providence, R.I.) with a combined time of 1:50.51.
Amanda Martin (Bristol, Conn.) was victorious in both the long jump (16-feet, 11.25-inches) and triple jump (35-8). In addition, Jenn Kapinos (Agawam, Mass.) captured first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:29.82.
Springfield had a number of second place finishes on the day. Lauren Dumaine (California, Ky.) was runner-up in the shot put with a heave of 33-feet, 6.75-inches. In the 200 meter dash, Colleen Rice (Queensbury, N.Y.) took second clocking in at 28.34. Abigail Wright (Pittsfield, Mass.) placed second in the 1 mile run with a time of 5:39.48. In the 60 meter hurdles, Erin Womboldt (Falmouth, Mass.) took second in 9.79.
Next, the Pride will travel to Brunswick, Maine on January 18 to square off against Bowdoin College.
