Springfield College Football Coaching Staff Leads North to 26-18 Victory in D3 Senior Classic
Salem, Va. -- December 3, 2010 -- Led by the Springfield College football coaching staff, the North squad defeated the South, 26-18, in tonight's 2nd Annual D3 Senior Classic at Salem Stadium. Head Coach Mike DeLong and 10 of his assistants guided the team to a fantastic comeback in which the North scored nine points in the last six seconds.
Dan Winsey of Concordia University of Wisconsin booted home a 32-yard field goal with six seconds left to give the North a 20-18 lead. The South had taken an 18-17 lead, its first lead of the game, with 3:32 remaining.
Right after the field goal, the North kicked off to the South, which attempted a few laterals. But on one lateral, DB Leer Biddle of William Paterson nabbed it in midair and scampered all the way back for a touchdown with no time remaining. That made the final score, 26-18.
Two Springfield College players competed in this contest. Wearing blue, they were offensive tackle #71 John Carlson (Cromwell, Conn.) and inside linebacker #4 Ken Goodwin (Foxboro, Mass.). Carlson had been named a co-captain for the North squad.
