



Salem, Va. -- December 3, 2010 -- Led by the Springfield College football coaching staff, the North squad defeated the South, 26-18, in tonight's 2nd Annual D3 Senior Classic at Salem Stadium. Head Coach Mike DeLong and 10 of his assistants guided the team to a fantastic comeback in which the North scored nine points in the last six seconds.Dan Winsey of Concordia University of Wisconsin booted home a 32-yard field goal with six seconds left to give the North a 20-18 lead. The South had taken an 18-17 lead, its first lead of the game, with 3:32 remaining.
Right after the field goal, the North kicked off to the South, which attempted a few laterals. But on one lateral, DB Leer Biddle of William Paterson nabbed it in midair and scampered all the way back for a touchdown with no time remaining. That made the final score, 26-18.
Two Springfield College players competed in this contest. Wearing blue, they were offensive tackle #71 John Carlson (Cromwell, Conn.) and inside linebacker #4 Ken Goodwin (Foxboro, Mass.). Carlson had been named a co-captain for the North squad.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
