BOSTON, February 25, 2006 – Springfield College freshman Silvienne Krosendijk (Seroe Biento, Aruba) leapt to a sixth-place finish in the long jump at the Open New England Championships hosted by Boston University this afternoon. Krosendijk's jump of 17' 9" lead the Pride to a three-way tie for 27th place out of 42 teams.
The final scores were as follows: UConn (181.83), Northeastern (116), Williams (66.50), UMass Lowell (53), Southern Connecticut State (30) University of Maine (30), BU (27), UNH (27), Keene State (26), Providence (24), Bates (21), Vermont (20), Wheaton (19.33), URI (18), Amherst (18), UMass (15), Tufts (14), Sacred Heart (12), Quinnipiac (11), Bowdoin (10), Worcester State (8.33), Colby (4), Coast Guard (4), Southern Maine (4), Brandeis (3.50), Holy Cross (3.50), Springfield (3), Stonehill (3), MIT (3), Trinity (2), Assumption (1), Central Connecticut State (1).
The 4 x 400-meter relay team of senior Alisha Miner (Sanbornton, N.H.), junior Jen McBride (Mechanicville, N.Y.), freshman Katie Parente (Torrington, Conn.), and sophomore Kristyn Meade (Raynham, Mass.) continued to improve and ran a season-best 4:01.1, which was good enough for 12th place at the meet.
In the 400-meter preliminaries, McBride and Parente ran personal-bests. McBride finished in 59.6 seconds to place 19th; Parente crossed the line in 61.07 seconds and finished in 26th place. Miner also did well, placing 24th with a time of 60.54 seconds which was her second-best time of the season. In the 55-meter dash, senior Yasmin Goris (Worcester, Mass.) advanced to the semifinals with a time of 7.36 seconds and finished in 15th place overall.
SC will next compete at Yale University in New Haven, Conn., on Friday, March 3.
Jim Pennington enters his 29th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2012-2013. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
