BOSTON, December 3, 2005 – Springfield College junior Alex Kampersal (Natick, Mass.) took third place in the shot put as seven Pride athletes qualified for the Division III New England Championships at the New Balance Winter Carnival hosted by Northeastern University at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Saturday.

Kampersal’s heave of 53 feet, 10 ¼ inches was a personal-best by over three feet and provisionally qualified the junior for the NCAA National Championships. The toss automatically qualified Kampersal for the Division III New England Championships, Open New England Championships, and ECAC Championships. The throw was good enough for fourth place in a meet consisting of Division I, II, and III competitors, as well as open competition.

Pride sophomore shot putters Dan Hall (Hingham, Mass.) and Dominic Uguccioni (Colrain, Mass.) took eighth and ninth in the competition with throws of 45-11 ¾ and 45-10 ½, respectively. SC’s Nick DeCelle (Mechanicville, N.Y.) leaped 21 feet, four inches in the long jump to place seventh while taking sixth in the triple jump with a bound of 41 feet, eight 1/2 inches.

In the running events, Pride junior Tetsuji Kambara (Osaka, Japan) took fourth place in the 5,000-meters with a time of 14:59.69. Senior tri-captain All-American Bill King (Wilmington, Mass.) placed seventh in the 200-meter dash as he crossed the finish line in 23.02 seconds. The meet was a non-scoring competition.

The Pride travels to Harvard University on Saturday, December 10 for its final competition before the winter break.
