Men's Track & Field Splits Tri-Meet With Bates and Southern Maine

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 9, 2005 – Springfield College sophomore All-American
Dave Forrette (Chicopee, Mass.) won the 400-meter dash (50.04) and anchored the second place 4x400-meter relay team (3:24.31) as the Pride defeated the University of Southern Maine in a tri-meet with Bates College today at Blake Track.
SC downed USM 160-70, but fell to Bates 194-160 in the Pride’s second meet of the season. SC junior All-American
Bill King (Burlington, Mass.) took second place in the 100- (11.30) and 200-meter dashes (22.61), and also ran a leg on the 4x400-meter relay.
In the field events, the Pride swept the top-three places in the high jump as sophomores
Chris Allen (Sandwich, Mass.) and
Jeff Cogan (Walworth, N.Y.) were first and second with equal jumps of 6 feet, 4 ¾ inches and senior All-American
Justin Welch (Woburn, Mass.) was third (6-2 ¾). SC sophomore
Cameron Turchetti (S. Deerfield, Mass.) was first in the javelin with a throw of 179-6.
Bates senior Joel Anderson won both the 800 meters (1:58.41) and the 1500 meters (4:00.91).
The Pride’s next competition is Saturday, April 16, at WPI at 12:00 pm.
