NEW BRITAIN, Conn., October 29, 2005 - Springfield College sophomore Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda) placed first in both the 50 (22.21) and 100 freestyle (48.61) events, but the Pride fell, 125-112, to Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) Saturday afternoon at Central Connecticut State University’s (CCSU) Jack Suydam Natatorium.
Other first-place finishes for the Pride included Daniel Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) in the 1000 freestyle (10:12.45) and Ryan Mahoney (Westford, Mass.) in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.98). Moran also captured second in the 200 butterfly, coming in with a time of 2:00.02.
Senior Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) placed first with a final score of 286.65 in the men’s one-meter dive and second in the three-meter dive (249.35).
On the women’s side, freshman Moira Price (Berkeley Heights, N.J) placed second in both the 50 freestyle (25.46) and the 200 breaststroke (2:33.63), but it wasn’t enough as SC fell to Central Connecticut, 127-111, and Southern Connecticut, 121-120.
The Pride also received solid contributions from freshman Kristen Schadow (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) in the 200 butterfly (2:14.13), sophomore Natasha Skowronski (Adams, Mass.) in the one-meter dive (200.45), and senior co-captain Emily Phillips (North Windham, Conn.) in the 100 freestyle (55.61), as all three athletes finished second in their respective events.
Other second-place finishers for the SC women included freshman Erin White (Glastonbury, Conn.) in the three-meter dive (203.00) and freshman Kallie Pottle (Brewer, Maine) in the 200 backstroke (2:14.93).
Both SC men’s and women’s squads will next compete at the University of Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon, November 12, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
