Women's Swimming & Diving Knocks NYU From Unbeaten Ranks

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Jan. 15, 2005– Springfield College junior
Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) won three individual events as the Pride upended New York University, 143.50-99.50, this afternoon in the Linkletter Natatorium.
SC improved to 6-1 in dual-meet competition this season, while NYU suffered its first loss and fell to 7-1.
Moran placed first in the 200 butterfly (1:57.76), 500 freestyle (4:52.51) and the 1,000 freestyle (9:56.71). Freshman
Ben Casavant (Acton, Mass.) nationally qualified in three-meter diving with a winning score of 308.85. Junior All-American
Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass) the one-meter diving competition (280.12).
Other individual winners included senior captain
Louis Arruda (West Warwick, R.I.) in the 200 freestyle (1:45.26) and freshman
Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda) in the 50 free (21.53).
On the women’s side, SC freshman
Dana Allen (Agawam, Mass.) swept both diving events as the Pride (5-4) extended its winning streak in dual-meet competition to four with a 148-95 victory over NYU (7-1).
In one-meter diving, Allen registered a nationally qualifying score of 247.72, and she posted a first-place score of 237.98 on the three-meter board.
Junior
Sarah Strout (Edgecomb, Maine) won two individual events, the 500 free (5:19.89) and the 1,000 free (10:48.09), and joined senior All-American
Megan Skinner (Acton, Mass.), junior
Alicia Hart (West Hartford, Conn.) and junior
Emily Phillips (North Windham, Conn.) to win the 400 free relay (3:44.47).
Skinner also won the 200 free (1:58.50) and the 200 backstroke (2:11.14). Hart placed first in the 50 free (25.69) and Phillips won the 100 free (55.77).

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and is entering his 29th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2013-2014. The current NEWMAC Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
