No. 19 Football Stopped by Ithaca, 31-7
ITHACA, N.Y., - October 30, 2004 -- Ithaca halfback Jamie Donovan rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns as the Bombers defeated 19th-ranked Springfield College, 31-7, in an Empire 8 conference game at Butterfield Stadium this afternoon.
The loss drops SC to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the Empire 8. It also dashes any chance of SC reaching its third consecutive NCAA Tournament. The Bombers improve to 6-2 and 3-1 in the E-8.
Sophomore linebacker
Andrew Madigan (New Britain, Conn.) was a bright spot for the Pride, recording a career-best 13 tackles including one-tackle-for-loss.
SC's offense was held to a season-low 171 yards on the ground. Senior
Tim Lutgens (Greenwich, N.Y.) had a team-high 55 yards. SC scored its only touchdown in the first quarter when senior quarter back
Ryan Sylvia (Marion, Mass.) hit senior halfback
Will Davis (Cumberland, R.I.) with a 19-yard TD pass to cap a nine-play, 63-yard drive. That score tied the game at 7-7. The Bombers, however, responded with two second-quarter scores highlighted by Donovan's 38-yard touchdown run with 6:44 to play in the half.
In the third quarter, Ithaca place-kicker Brett Kitenplon drilled a 34-yard field goal to extend the lead to 17. On the Pride's next drive Sylvia fumbled, and Donovan finished a seven-play, 39 yard drive with a four-yard scoring jaunt with 5:59 left in the third quarter.
