



ONEONTA, N.Y., November 12, 2005 - Springfield College freshman midfielder Lauren Peltier (Agawam, Mass.) scored the lone goal of the match for the Pride as Oneonta State defeated SC, 3-1, in the second round of the 2005 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament this afternoon (Nov. 12) in Oneonta, N.Y.
The Red Dragons (20-2-1) got out to an early, 2-0 lead, as Oneonta State scored two goals within the first 28 minutes of play (19:10, 27:50). The score remained at 2-0 heading into the break. In the second stanza, the Pride attempted to mount a comeback, as Peltier scored her eighth goal of the season at the 68:09 mark off a feed from senior back Courtney Goetz (Flemington, N.J.) to cut the Red Dragon lead in half.
Just 14 seconds later, however, Oneonta added an insurance goal as Mary Velan netted her 17th goal off the season off a rebound to put the Red Dragons up for good, 3-1. Oneonta State advances to the round of 16 with the victory.
SC sophomore keeper Amanda Petri (East Granby, Conn.) made 10 saves in goal for the Pride, which ends its season with a 14-5-3 overall record.
John Gibson, a native of London, England, enters his 14th season as head women's soccer at Springfield College in the fall of 2013. Gibson has led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament in six of the last eight years and has established the Pride as one of the top programs in the country. His clubs have registered an impressive a 165-75-21 record.
