Softball Splits Doubleheader At Wellesley

WELLESLEY, Mass., April 9, 2005 – Springfield College senior pitcher
Amy Brucker (Westerly, R.I.) tossed a complete game, three-hit shutout, as the Pride won the first game of a doubleheader today at Wellesley, 6-0. The Blue earned a split after a 6-5 win in the second game.
SC junior shortstop
Caitlin McGaughey (South Windsor, Conn.) went 2-for-3 in the first game, including a RBI double in the third inning, that scored the Pride’s first run of the game.
SC added four runs to its lead in the fourth inning off RBI pinch hits from junior
Sarah Bagierek (Douglas, Mich.) and senior
Jackie Agrillo (Acton, Mass.) and a pair of Wellesley errors.
The Pride tacked on its sixth run in the top-half of the seventh inning, off an RBI single by Brucker.
In the second game of the double header, SC jumped out to 1-0 lead in the first inning on a RBI single by senior outfielder
Laurie Cersosimo (West Hartford, Conn.). The Blue quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning by scoring three runs. Wellesley freshman outfielder Meghan Sullivan, who was 2-for-3 in the game, scored one of her three runs, as it took a 3-1 lead.
Junior
Amanda Johansson (Leominster, Mass.) tied the game up at 3-3, on a two RBI double and would later score on a Wellesley error to give SC a 4-3 lead after five innings.
The Pride made it a 5-3 game in the sixth inning off an RBI single by senior
Lori Baumann (Pittsfield, Mass.), but the Blue tied the game up at 5-5 in the bottom-half of the inning. Wellesley went on to win the game in the eighth inning, on a fielder’s choice.
