DeSales Wins Holiday Inn Naismith Women's Basketball Classic
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Jan. 4, 2004 -- DeSales (Pa.) University senior point guard Amy Yencho (Bethlehem, Pa.) scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds on the way to most valuable player honors as the Bulldogs beat Springfield College, 74-44, to win the 9th Annual Holiday Inn-Naismith Women’s Basketball Classic tonight in Blake Arena.
Yencho had nine points, four assists and no turnovers in the Bulldogs’ 61-55 first-round win over The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) on Saturday. Junior guard Alyssa Antolick (Bethlehem, Pa.) added 13 points tonight and was voted to the all-tournament team. She had 18 points against TCNJ.

LaToya Franklin (Latham, N.Y.) led the Pride (5-4) with a career-high 14 points tonight.
The Bulldogs (6-2) out-rebounded SC, 42-25, including 17-4 on the offensive glass. The 17 offensive boards led to 19 second-chance points for DeSales. The Bulldogs also shot 64 percent (16-25 FG) in the second half.
Bates 86, TCNJ 63
Bates junior forward Olivia Zurek (Arlington, Mass.) registered a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds as the Bobcats defeated The College of New Jersey, 86-63, in the consolation game.
Zurek, who had 14 points and nine rebounds against Springfield in the first round, was named to the all-tournament team. Senior forward Lauren Dubois (Beverly, Mass.) added 20 points and tied a Holiday Inn-Naismith Classic record with six three-point field goals, and junior guard Heather Taylor (Nobleboro, Maine) had 12 points and nine assists. The Bobcats (5-4) shot 55.6 percent from the floor (35-63 FG), which is also a Classic record.
Senior forward Laura Mala (Ridgewood, N.J.) was one of three players to score 11 points for TCNJ (4-3). She named to the all-tournament team after averaging 13.5 points in two games.
