Women's Basketball Falls, 80-69, To Southern Maine In NCAA Div. III Tournament Quarterfinals

GORHAM, Maine - March 13 - Springfield College freshman guard Tara McCarthy (Bristol, R.I.) scored a game-high 22 points, but it was host Southern Maine downing the Pride, 80-69, in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament this afternoon in Maine.

McCarthy and senior forward Kacey Wunsch (Londonderry, N.H.) were named to the all-tournament team for the Pride (25-6), which matched the school record for wins in a single season in its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III quarterfinals. SC also played in the 1982 Division II quarterfinals.

Junior forward Courtney Parvin (Brackney, Pa.) added 17 points and grabbed six boards for SC, while Wunsch was credited with nine points and five rebounds in her final collegiate game.

Southern Maine (30-2) moves on to its fourth final four and first since 2000, where the Huskies will face Milikin, Friday (March 19) in Virginia Beach, Va.
