NEWARK, N.J., February 24, 2006 - Springfield College freshman outside hitter Ryan Fredrickson (Manahawkin, N.J.) tallied a team-best 11 kills, but it was the host Highlanders of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) which defeated the Pride, 3-0, in an Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA)-Hay Division match.
SC falls to 6-9 overall on the season and 4-2 in EIVA-Hay play, as the Division II Highlanders improved their record to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in conference action, defeating the Pride, 30-23, 30-23, and 30-25.
Sophomore libero Brandon Waas (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded a match-best 11 digs for SC, as freshman middle blocker Andrew Sipe (New Oxford, Pa.) registered a match-high four blocks while hitting an impressive .462 for the match with six kills and zero errors on 13 swings.
NJIT was led by Eduardo Welter and Amobi Armstrong, as the two combined for 29 kills in the victory. Welter had a match-high 17 kills on 30 attempts with just six errors for a .367 hitting percentage. Armstrong tallied 12 kills on 22 swings for a .318 hitting percentage. As a team, the Highlanders hit .255 in the match against the Pride's .212 team hitting percentage.
SC next returns home after a four-match road trip to host the Violets of New York University on Saturday night (Feb. 25), in a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match.
