



SPRINGFIELD, Mass., September 18, 2005 - Springfield College sophomore goalkeeper Emma Kaplan (Ridgefield, Conn.) tallied 15 saves and allowed just one score as the Pride defeated Plymouth State University, 4-1, in non-conference action this afternoon (Sept. 18) at Benedum Field.
SC (5-1), ranked ninth in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III national poll, jumped out on the board early as senior Sara Brooker (Auburn, Maine) scored in just the 3rd minute of play (2:08). Seniors Meghan Bascetta(Granby, Conn.) and Erin Bosch(Shoreham, NY) each added a first half goal for the Pride, which took a 3-0 lead into the break.
Lily Silva scored the lone goal for Plymouth State with 23:56 remaining in the game. SC’s Bascetta scored again with an assist from sophomore Britney Veazie (Dexter, Maine), making the final score 4-1.
The Pride visits Amherst on Wednesday, September 21 at 4:30 p.m. for a non-conference match-up.
After nine years as head coach of the Pride, Melissa Sharpe has continued the tradition of winning on the field hockey turf, posting an impressive 130-68 record, good for a winning percentage of .656 at the helm of her alma mater. Read more.
