SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 8, 2006 – Springfield College freshman forward Pat Cavanaugh (Wayland, Mass.) scored five goals and added an assist as the Pride cruised past Wheaton College, 19-9, in Pilgrim Lacrosse League this afternoon at Benedum Field.
With the win, SC has now won three-straight games, improving to 5-3 overall and a perfect 2-0 in the Pilgrim League. The Lyons fall to 3-5-1 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
With his five-goal and one-assist performance this afternoon, Cavanaugh has accumulated a total of 18 points in his first eight career collegiate contests with 14 goals and four assists. Sophomore midfielder Steve Krasco (Medford, Mass.) added four goals and an assist in the win.
In a match-up where the Pride out shot the Lyons by a 57-26 margin, SC led by just one goal (2-1) after the first 15 minutes of play. That all changed soon, however, as the Pride outscored Wheaton, 8-1, in the second quarter to take a 10-2 lead into the break. For the game, freshman forward Jake Beebe (Sudbury, Mass.) chipped in with four assists and three goals, as senior midfielder Kevin Lynch (Milton, Mass.) recorded two scores and an assist.
Wheaton was led by senior midfielder Taylor Jackson and senior forward Adam Cohen with three goals apiece, as Jackson also added an assist. Lyon keeper Jeremy Beech made 15 saves in goal for Wheaton.
SC will next host Western New England College (WNEC) in a 7:00 p.m. Pilgrim League contest on Wednesday evening, April 12th.
