ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 4, 2006 - Springfield College junior midfielder Adam Toutain (Lewiston, Maine) scored two first-quarter goals to give the No. 12 Pride an early advantage, but it was the third-ranked Golden Flyers of Nazareth College which came back to beat SC this afternoon, 16-6, in front of 1,000 people in both school's 2006 season-openers.
The Pride opened the contest by scoring three of the game's first four goals, as SC took an early 3-1 advantage off of two Toutain scores and one goal from sophomore midfielder Steve Krasco (Medford, Mass.). Nazareth quickly answered back, however, running off seven-straight scores to take command of the game, 8-3, after the first 30 minutes of action. With the score was tied at three apiece after one quarter, the Golden Flyers outscored the Pride, 5-0, in the second stanza.
Senior midfielder Kevin Lynch (Milton, Mass.), sophomore attacker Chris Healy (Weymouth, Mass.), and freshman defender Stanley Jackson (Farmingdale, N.Y.) each added third-quarter scores as SC trailed, 11-6, after 45 minutes of action. Nazareth broke the game open in the final quarter, however, scoring five goals while the Pride failed to net a goal as the Golden Flyers won the season-opening match, 16-6.
Bryan Adams led Nazareth with a game-high four goals, as Ryan Hotaling added three scores. Adams and Hotaling each assisted on two Golden Flyer goals during the contest. Junior goalkeeper Kyle Cloutier (South Hadley, Mass.) recorded 19 saves in the loss for SC.
The Pride (0-1) will next be at Hartwick College on Saturday afternoon, March 11, in a 1:00 p.m. start.
