No. 10 Men's Lacrosse Posts 11-7 Win Over Conn. College

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 14, 2004 – Springfield College junior midfielder
Mark Maitland (Salem, Mass.) scored three goals to lead the No. 10 Pride to a 11-7 win over Connecticut College in men’s lacrosse this evening on Benedum Field.
SC sophomore attackman
Taylor Brown (Portsmouth, R.I.) tacked on a pair of goals and an assist as the Pride (7-3) won its sixth-straight game.
Connecticut (3-7) scored first, as sophomore midfielder
Mike Rampi (North Easton, Mass.) tallied at the 11:56 mark of the first quarter. Maitland answered with a pair of goals in a 25-second span to put SC up, 2-1, with 7:10 remaining in the quarter. Senior midfielder
Craig Gibson (South Salem, N.Y.) gave the Pride a two-goal advantage with his 90th career goal at the 2:55 mark of the quarter. The goal also tied him with Eric Refvik ’02 as the highest-scoring midfielder in school history with 129 points (90 goals, 39 assists).
The Camels started the second quarter with a pair of goals by sophomore attackman
Russ Chase (Nantucket, Mass.) at 13:45, and junior midfielder
Dave Schwartz (East Dix Hills, N.Y.) at 13:02 to knot the game, 3-3. After a man-up goal by Pride junior midfielder
Dan Blinn (Longmeadow, Mass.) at 8:26, two more Connecticut tallies by Chase at 7:33, and freshman attackman
Jordan Yearsley (Export, Pa.), gave the Camels their first lead of the game, 5-4 at the 7:13 mark. A Springfield tally by junior attackman
Brian Endicott (Malden, Mass.) at the 4:49 mark rounded out the first half scoring with the teams tied, 5-5.
Springfield broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Camels, 4-1. A pair of goals 28 seconds apart by senior attackman
Paul Purdy (Brewster, N.Y.) at 6:48, and another by Maitland put SC up, 7-5, with 6:20 to go in the third quarter.
Rampi would pull Connecticut within one with his second tally of the game with 4:36 remaining in the third quarter, before four-consecutive Springfield goals including two-straight by junior midfielder
Adam Cost (Camillus, N.Y.) put the Pride ahead for good, 11-6, with 12:16 to play in the game.
Chase finished the game with his third goal of the game at the 7:41 mark of the final quarter, but Springfield went on to earn the victory. SC freshman goalie
Kyle Cloutier (South Hadley, Mass.) made 12 saves to register his seventh win of the season.
