SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 20, 2004 – Despite three goals apiece by junior midfielders
Derek Pedrick (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and
Kevin Warnock (Somers, Conn.), No. 14 Springfield College fell to No. 7 SUNY Cortland, 12-8, in men’s lacrosse action this afternoon on Benedum Field.
Sophomore attackman
Kyle Lambert (Brentwood, N.Y.) scored three goals, while senior attackman
Drew Hyatt (Jamesville, N.Y.) added two goals and four assists for Cortland (2-1).
Springfield (1-3) struck first with an unassisted goal by Pedrick with 10:40 remaining in the first quarter. Five unanswered Red Dragon goals, including two by Lambert, put the visitors up, 5-1, after one quarter of play.

Craig Gibson (South Salem, N.Y.) :58 seconds into the quarter, followed by Warnock’s first goal of the game, cut the Cortland lead to 5-3 with 10:44 remaining in the half. Cortland would score two of the games next three goals, including a man-up goal by senior midfielder
Andrew Roth (Ridgewood, N.J.)with at 8:03 on the clock, and Lambert’s third goal of the game with 3:56 remaining, to take a 7-4 lead at halftime. Warnock put in his second tally of the game at the 5:59 mark for the Pride.
Three-straight goals by Springfield, punctuated by Pedrick’s second goal of the game, tied the score at 7-7, with 2:45 remaining in the third quarter. Freshman attackman
Mike Felice (Baldwinsville, N.Y) scored off a Hyatt feed with 1:23 remaining in the quarter to put Cortland back on top, 8-7 after three quarters of play.
Two straight goals by freshman midfielder
Ryan Simensky (Locust Valley, N.Y.) increased the Red Dragon lead to 10-7, with 9:16 remaining to play. Hyatt’s second goal of the game came with 7:31 on the clock to increase the Cortland lead to 11-7, before Pedrick’s third goal of the game at 5:55 made the score 11-8. Felice finished the scoring with his second tally of the contest with 1:49 remaining in the game for the 12-8 final score.

Kyle Cloutier (South Hadley, Mass.) made 13 saves, while Red Dragon sophomore
Bryan Scipione (East Meadow, N.Y.) was credited with 12 stops.
Springfield returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Trinity College at 4:00 p.m. in its third-straight home contest.
