No. 9 Men's Lacrosse Earns 20-12 Victory Over WNEC

Paul Purdy (Brewster, Mass.) scored a career-high 10 points (7 goals, 3 assists) while freshman goalie
Kyle Cloutier (South Hadley, Mass.) was credited with 22 saves, also a career-best, to lead the No. 9 Pride to a 20-12 victory over host Western New England College this evening on Golden Bear Field.
Purdy also moved into ninth-place on Springfield's career scoring list with 184 points (114 goals, 70 assists) at SC (10-3, 5-0 Pilgrim), as the Pride won its ninth-straight game this spring.
Sophomore attackman
Taylor Brown (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored the game's first goal at the 12:41 mark, follwed by a tally by junior midfielder
Brian Endicott (Malden, Mass.) as SC jumped out to a 2-0 lead with 11:30 remaining in the first quarter. The first of four goals by WNEC junior midfielder
Pat Matthews (Middle Island, N.Y.) made the score 2-1 at the 10:28 mark, before goals by Purdy at 8:49 and junior attackman
Shawn Cofrin (Londonderry, N.H.) at 1:58 gave SC a 4-1 lead after the first quarter of play.
After the teams traded two goals apiece to make the score, 6-3, with 12:07 remaining in the second quarter, three unanswered Golden Bear goals over a 42-second span, including Matthews' third at the 3:16 mark, knotted the game, 6-6, after the first half of play.
WNEC picked up in the second half where it left off in the first, as Matthews netted his third goal of the game at the 14:03 mark, followed by the third of four goals in the game by senior attackman
Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, Md.) to give the Golden Bears a 8-6 lead with 13:09 remaining in the third quarter.
Springfield answered with a six goal run, sparked by three Purdy goals, over a 3:51 span to reclaim the lead, 12-8, with 9:01 to play in the third quarter.
After a goal by WNEC junior attackman
CJ Annunciata (Waltham, Mass.) made the score, 12-9, at the 7:23 mark, Purdy's fifth goal at the 5:42 mark, and Cofrin's third tally made the score, 14-9, with 59 seconds to play in the third quarter. WNEC freshman
Adam Cherry (Westfield, Mass.) scored with 15 seconds left in the quarter to make the score 14-10 after three quarters.
SC put the game away with five goals in three minutes to take a 19-10 lead with 9:18 to play in the game. WNEC would score two goals to Springfield's one to finish the game for the 20-12 final.
SC can wrap up the top-seed for the upcoming Pilgrim League Tournament this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with a win at MIT in its regular-season finale.
