NORTHFIELD, Vt., April 19, 2006 - The Springfield College Pride scored early and often as it overpowered the Cadets of Norwich University, 24-1, this afternoon in a Pilgrim Lacrosse League match-up. Senior attacker Taylor Brown (Portsmouth, R.I.) topped SC with four goals, while freshman attacker Jake Beebe (Sudbury, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Jake Jones (Amherst, Mass.) scored three goals apiece.
With the win, the Pride improves to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in Pilgrim League play. Norwich remains winless on the season, at 0-9 in all games played and 0-5 in league competition. SC has now won five of its past six games.
The Pride scored eight goals in the opening quarter, nine in the second, and seven in the third. SC totaled an impressive 18 assists in the contest with freshman attacker Pat Cavanaugh (Wayland, Mass.) and junior attacker Drew Ginsberg (Takoma Park, Md.) each tallying three.
Cadet sophomore midfielder Drew Caplin scored Norwich's only goal of the afternoon midway through the second period off the assist of junior attacker C.J. Hamilton.
The Pride outshot the Cadets by a 45-6 margin in the game. SC goalies Tom Albano (Ridgewood, N.J.) made four saves, while starting netminder Jason Farrell (Mahopae, N.Y.) made one stop. Norwich goaltender Kyle Field finished with 11 saves.
The Pride will look to make it six of its last seven as SC next hosts Amherst College tomorrow evening, April 20th, in a 7:00 p.m. non-conference start at Benedum Field.
