Terre Haute, Ind. - March 13, 2009 - Nikki Hay and Fatima Rose both represented Springfield College on Friday afternoon as the duo competed in the 2009 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Hay, who qualified to run the 55 meter dash and the compete in the triple jump throughout this weekend, ran the 55 meters on Friday evening. The 2009 New England Women's Field Athlete of the Year did not qualify for the finals as she ran a 7.32 in the prelims on Friday. Hay ran in the faster of the two heats, as Judy Bataille of Heidelberg College ran the fastest time of the day with a 7.09. Five of the seven runners in Hay's heat qualified for the finals which will be run on Saturday.
Hay's specialty is coming up on Saturday as she enters the triple jump competition with the longest triple jump of the year to date in Division III, a distance of 11.97 meters or 39-3 1/4, that she reached last weekend at the ECAC Division III Championships. The preliminaries are scheduled for Saturday morning at 11:30, with the top nine jumpers advancing to the finals.
Rose did not record a distance as she competed in the weight throw competition. Rose qualified in the weight throw last weekend at the ECAC Division III Championships with a toss of 16.58 meters, or 54-4 3/4.
