SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Jan.31, 2004 –Springfield College sophomore
Sarah Healy (Milton, Mass.) swept the one and three-meter diving with scores of 187.27 and 214.80, respectively, as the Pride improved its record to 9-2 by defeating Coast Guard, 157-80, on Saturday at Art Linkletter Natatorium.
SC’s 200-freestyle relay team of sophomore
Melissa Denza (Torrington,Conn.), sophomore
Alicia Hart (West Hartford, Conn.), sophomore
Emily Phillips (North Windham, Conn.) and junior
Megan Skinner (Acton, Mass.) won in a time of 1:44.18. The Pride’s 400-medley relay team, comprised of senior
Claire Mueller (Newburgh, N.Y.), senior Beth Byron (Haverhill, Mass.), senior
Jessica Defoe (Monson, Mass.)and senior
Marybeth Kuliga (Sandford, Maine) also placed first in 4:13.82
Other winners included Mueller in the 100 backstroke (1:04.15); Kuliga in the 500 freestyle (5:26.57); Hart in the 100 freestyle (56.56); freshman
Meaghan O’Hara (Bedford, N.H.) in the 1,000 freestyle (11:18.00), and junior
Emily Stout (Edgecomb, Maine) in the 200 freestyle (2:02.70).
On the men’s side, SC junior
Louis Arruda (West Warwick, R.I.) won the 100 freestyle (48.94) and the 200 freestyle (1:49.08), but Coast Guard defeated the Pride, 126-111.
Sophomore All-American
Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) won the one-meter (274.42) and three-meter (263.78) diving for SC (5-4 overall). Sophomore
Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) placed first in the 500 freestyle (5:00.71), and junior
Tim Ryan (Hatboro, Pa.) won the 1,000 freestyle (10:26.63). SC’s 400-medley team of Ryan, freshman
Ryan Mahoney (Westford, Mass.), junior Blake
Leshnick (Suffern, N.Y.) and Arruda swam to a win (3:41.24)

Diving Coach Peter Avdoulos

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and is entering his 28th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2012-2013. The current NEWMAC Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
