SPRINGFIED, Mass., April 15, 2003- Springfield College sophomore right fielder
John Beattie (Longmeadow, Mass.) went 2-for-3 and ripped a three-run home run in the third inning as the Pride defeated Clark, 14-9, on Tuesday, in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match-up at Berry-Allen Field.
In the third inning, the Pride broke open a 1-0 game by scoring seven runs, including Beattie’s three run blast. SC freshman third baseman
Derek Yvon (East Longmeadow, Mass.) contributed to the outburst with a two-run single to right field. Junior shortstop
Toby Cole (Blue Hill, Maine), who went 4-for-6 with three RBI, belted a two-run double in the third. Cole added a solo home run in the fifth inning. Freshman catcher
Adam Tarquini (Fishkill, N.Y.) also hit a solo shot in the fifth.
SC right-hander
Aaron Linder (Oneida, N.Y.) picked up his third victory, hurling seven innings and giving up just one earned run.
For Clark, junior shortstop
David McNamara (Worcester, Mass.) went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
