



Springfield, Mass. -- November 8, 2010 -- Kicker Ricky Peacock of the Springfield College football team has been named the Empire 8 Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts last Saturday during a 55-49 victory over St. John Fisher in Rochester, New York. It is the second time this year that Peacock has been so named.Peacock, a sophomore from Tucker, Ga., scored a total of 13 points in the victory over the Cardinals. He booted seven extra points in seven attempts. He also kicked two field goals, both in the last 5:33 of the game, which proved to be the final margin of victory.
With 5:33 left, he kicked a 41-yard field goal. Then with 1:25 left, he booted home a 29-yard field goal, which, at the time, gave the Pride a 13-point lead.
Springfield has been honored eight times this year with an Empire 8 Player of the Week award -- five times defensively, and three times for special teams. The players of the week include ILB Ken Goodwin (Foxboro, Mass.) three times on defense, DT Chris Kulcsar (Haworth, N.J.) once on defense, SS Matt Ramos (Milford, Conn.) once on defense, Peacock twice on special teams, and HB Mark Safer (St. Johns, Fla.) once on special teams.
Springfield, now 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the Empire 8, will host Union College on Saturday at Stagg Field at 1:30 pm.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 32nd season as a head football coach in the fall of 2013. He enters his 30th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
