Women's Track & Field Competes At Trinity Invitational

HARTFORD, Conn., April 9, 2005 – Springfield College senior thrower
Amanda Alpert (Saugus, Mass.) took first place in the shot put this past Saturday at the Trinity College Invitational, one of three first-place performances on the day for the Pride in the non-scoring event.
Alpert’s throw of 37 feet, 10 ¾ inches outdistanced the field by over a foot. Junior distance runner
Meg Young (Hurley, N.Y.) and sophomore pole vaulter
Natasha Landon (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) also were victorious in their respective events. Young won the 10,000-meter in 39:13.89 while Landon won the pole vault by clearing 10’8.
Junior thrower
Christina Davis (Orange, Conn.) contributed with three second-place finishes for the Pride. Davis placed second in the shot put (36-6 ¾), discus (111-0) and javelin (116-1).

Jim Pennington enters his 29th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2012-2013. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
