



Bristol, R.I. -- January 17, 2011 -- The Springfield College wrestling team continues to be ranked No. 1 in the New England Wrestling Association Division III poll, released earlier today. SC accumulated 120 points and seven of 13 first-place votes. The Pride participated in the Budd Whitehill Duals at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa. during the past weekend where they really struggled with a team-wide bout with the flu. As a result, SC finished with a record of 2-3 in the tournament, and are now 3-3 in duals on the season.
Springfield remained No. 1 in the latest poll, which it has dominated for most of the season. Wesleyan jumped to the No. 2 spot with 112 points, followed by Williams at No. 3 with 109 points. Wesleyan (6-2-1) received one first-place vote, while Williams (4-2-1) captured the remaining five first-place votes.
In fourth through 10th were Johnson & Wales (9-4-1) with 97 points; Plymouth State (2-0) with 73; Bridgewater State (4-6-1) with 71; Roger Williams (3-7) with 48; Rhode Island College (3-4) with 38; Southern Maine (1-7) with 29; and Coast Guard (0-5) with 14. Also receiving votes were Trinity and WNEC.
Daryl Arroyo's troops will next compete at No. 3 Williams Wednesday at 7 pm. Next Sunday (January 23), SC will compete in the NEWA Duals at Bridgewater State.

Jason Holder will enter his second season as head wrestling coach in 2012. Holder had a standout first season at the helm of the Pride, leading Springfield to the NEWA Duals Championship and taking three wrestlers to the NCAA Championships.
