Sobel Earns ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Honors
Springfield, Mass. - May 20, 2010
- Junior All-American diver Brian Sobel
was honored for his academic success as he was named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection.
Sobel becomes the fourth student-athlete from Springfield College to earn CoSIDA national academic recognition this year. Dave Kotulski from the men's soccer team picked up the accolade in the fall, while softball's Bryn Worrilow and Michelle Wlosek were selected just weeks ago.
The Stratford, Conn. native was named to the District I College Division First Team after owning a 3.73 grade point average in Recreation Management.
Despite only diving in the second half of the season due to an injury, Sobel had a sensational year as he repeated as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Diver of the Year. At the NCAA Championships, Sobel was the national runner-up on the one-meter and finished seventh on the three-meter as he took home a pair of All-America accolades.
