Sawczuk Earns NEWMAC Player of the Week Honors

Caitlin Sawczuk Springfield, Mass. - September 7, 2009 - After guiding the women's soccer team to a 2-0 start to the season, Caitlin Sawczuk was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Soccer Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

A senior forward from Plainville, Conn., Sawczuk tallied two goals in Springfield's season-opening win over Westfield State on Friday evening in the Springfield Invitational. Sawczuk tallied the first goal of the game early in the second half and then netted the game winner just under four minutes into overtime to give Springfield the 2-1 victory.

Sawczuk and the Pride will return to action on Wednesday evening when they host cross-town rival Western New England at 7:00 pm under the lights at Brock-Affleck Field.

Gibson has led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament in five of the last seven years and has established the Pride as one of the top programs in the country.
