The Wilbraham, Mass. native is currently the head coach of the boys varsity swim team at Wilbraham & Monson Academy, but on December 15, he took to the pool for the Short Course Meters Colonies Zone Championship at Boston University. The championship meet is part of United States Masters Swimming (USMS), a national organization that provides organized workouts, competitions, clinics and workshops for adults aged 18 and over.
At the event, Moran was part of an 800-meter freestyle relay team that established a new world record. The team finished in 7:43.72, breaking the mark previously set by a team from Japan in April of 2013. Moran swam the third leg as the foursome topped the previous mark by seven seconds, setting a new record in the combined 100-119 age group.
Moran still has his place in the Springfield College record books, as he holds school records in the 500 free, 1000 free, 1650 free and the 200 butterfly. He graduated in 2006 with a degree in history and was named to the Division III Academic All-America team. In 2005, Moran was a member of Springfield's first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship team.
