O'Leary Named AVCA Division III Men's Volleyball National Player of the Year

O'Leary Named AVCA Division III Men's Volleyball National Player of the Year Huntingdon, Pa. - April 24, 2014 - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Thursday evening that Springfield College senior middle blocker Jimmy O'Leary (Reading Pa.) was named the 2014 AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Year.

O'Leary has had a dominant senior season for the Pride and is currently tops in the country in hitting percentage at .510, thanks to hitting over .500 in 19 matches this season. He has also been a force defensively and ranks third nationally blocks per set with 1.18, and leads the Pride with 39 aces this year. O'Leary was also selected as an AVCA First-Team All-America, a year after earning second-team accolades.

Thanks to O'Leary's efforts, the Pride are the top seed in the upcoming NCAA Division III Championship for the third-straight season.

This marks the the third time in program history that the Springfield College men's volleyball program has had the AVCA Division III National Player of the Year.

In 2011, senior middle Cal Palumbo was honored with the national award after totaling 258 kills at a .506 clip to go along with 102 blocks and 23 aces, while outside hitter AJ Nally was Springfield’s first-ever AVCA Division III National Player of the Year in 2010 after he totaled 466 kills and set the program mark for most digs in a season with 305.

With three AVCA Division III Player of the Year selections, Springfield College is now tied with Juniata College for the most honorees in the award's 11-year history.
