Men's Soccer Handles Elms, 3-0, In Home Opener

Dave Kotulski Box Score

Springfield, Mass. - September 12, 2009 - The Springfield College men's soccer team snapped a two-game skid on Saturday as it handled visiting Elms, 3-0, in a non-conference contest on Brock-Affleck Field.

Springfield evens its record to 2-2 on the year, while the Blazers fall to 0-3.

The Pride dominated nearly every facet of the game, owning a 29-3 advantage in shots.

After peppering Elms goalkeeper, Ryan Sullivan, with several shots to start the game, the Pride finally got on the scoreboard with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half. Senior Dave Kotulski took the ball to his right and unleashed a rocket into the upper left corner of the net from 25 yards out to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

Springfield netted its second goal of the game in the 61st minute when Cody Kaczetow buried a free kick from the top of the box for his first collegiate goal. With less than two minutes to play, Aled Hollingworth sent a beautiful through ball nearly 40 yards to a streaking Eric Stalsburg, who slotted home Springfield's third tally of the game.

Sullivan faced 29 shots in the game and finished with 10 saves, while Chris Walton notched his second shutout of the year while making just one save.

The Pride return to action on Wednesday afternoon when it travels to Wesleyan for a non-conference contest. Kick-off is slated for 4:30 pm.
