Springfield, Mass. - October 27, 2012 - The Springfield College men’s swimming and diving team defeated visiting Holy Cross, 152-146, on Saturday afternoon in its season-opener in Art Linketter Natatorium.
Springfield opened up the meet with the team of Travis Morse, Michael Normoyle, Pat Geraghty, and Nolan Manley placing second in the 400 yard medley relay with a time 3:40.80. The Pride would then have the top finisher in the 1000 yard freestyle as Phillip Murphy finished with a time of 10:25.99.
Springfield had the top two finishers in the 200 yard freestyle as Jason Scotto and Scott Peters beat the competition with times of 1:47.69 and 1:52.66. Manley was the top overall finisher in the 50 yard freestyle as he finished with a time of 22.86 and earned top honors for SC.
The Pride had the top three finishers in the three meter diving as Kenny Pancoast, Dalton Crantek, and Jack Lewis finished with scores of 281.11, 265.80, and 262.50, respectively. Lewis and Pancoast also finished in first and second for Springfield in the one meter diving with scores of 273.75 and 273.30.
Scotto and Manley finished one and two for the Pride in the 100 yard freestyle with close times of 49.38 and 49.56. Normoyle finished second for Springfield in the 200 yard breaststroke after completing the event in 2:18.44.
Springfield dominated the 500 yard freestyle, as Murphy, Tim Ramos, and John Vatkevich finished in 5:03.67, 5:07.99, and 5:08.39 to take the top three places for the home team. Geraghty and Benjamin Ernst took second and third for SC in the 100 yard butterfly with times of 56.24 and 56.48.
Lastly, a team of Hayden Cassidy, Manley, Peters, and Scotto finished with the best time in the 200 yard freestyle relay as they finished in 1:29.86.
The men’s team will be back in action next weekend as they take on the Coast Guard and URI in Rhode Island.
