



SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 15, 2006 – Springfield College sophomore Guy Lepore (Bay Shore,N.Y.) won at #5 singles, but Wheaton College outlasted the Pride, 6-1, in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men’s tennis action this afternoon at Appleton Courts.
The Pride falls to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in the league, while the Lyons improve to 9-3 and remain undefeated at 4-0 in the NEWMAC.
Wheaton College, tied for first in the NEWMAC standings with MIT, swept the #1, #2 and #3 doubles matches, 8-3, 8-2, and 8-0 respectively. Payum Payman (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) teamed with Sean Daly (Miami, Fla.) to defeat SC’s Andrew Constant (Kingston, N.Y.) and Justin Freitas (E. Providence, R.I.) in #1 doubles.
Other victors for Wheaton included the current NEWMAC Player of the Week, Payman, at #1 singles over Constant, Daly over Freitas at #2 singles, Brad Dressler (Cranston, R.I.) over Bobby Schlink (Quaker Hill, Conn.) at #3 singles, Nick Potter (Concord, N.H.) over Jeff Crofts (Beverly, Mass.) at #4 singles, and Jeff Selesnick (Concord, N.H.) over Dave Keenan (Scarborough, Maine) at #6 singles.SC next travels to Roger Williams, on Wednesday (April 19), for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference match.

Singles:
Toby Coffin G’01, enters his third year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
