



CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – September 27, 2008 – Melissa Weinstein of Springfield College advanced to the second round of singles competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England Championships at MIT Saturday, but could advance no further.Today, the senior captain from Allentown, Pa. lost in the second round of singles competition to 7th-seeded Rachel Rosman of Brandeis by a score of 6-0, 6-1.
Weinstein had teamed with sophomore Amy Shaw (Walpole, Mass.) to compete in doubles, but fell to Edwina Stewart and Jennifer Lovet of Tufts, 8-5, in the first round.
Yesterday, Shaw lost to Stewart in the first round of singles, 6-2, 6-3.
Shaw plays No. 1 singles for Springfield, Weinstein No. 2.
Weinstein had advanced to the second round of singles by defeating Nawal Mays of Smith, 6-1, 6-2.

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his second year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
