Women's Volleyball Lands Five on NEWMAC All-Academic Team

Meaghan Hart Springfield, Mass. - November 10, 2010 - Five Springfield College women’s volleyball players were named to the 2010 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Academic Team on Wednesday afternoon. Springfield's Meaghan Hart, Heather Lively, Brittany McNally, Sonya Mickiewicz, and Lauren Torvi were all honored for their academic success.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale after the 2010 spring semester, achieved second-year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 10 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

For Lively and Hart, this marks the second-straight year of being tabbed a NEWMAC All-Academic selection. Torvi and Lively were also recently honored for their work in the classroom as the duo was named to the ESPN Academic All-District team.
