Women's Soccer Cruises In '04 Opener
WESTFIELD, Mass., Sept. 4, 2004 -- Senior forward
Molly Desroches (Belchertown, Mass.) scored two goals, and sophomore midfielder
Michelle Bongiovanni (West Springfield, Mass.) and senior forward
Jessica Kovacs (Dalton, Mass.) both tallied a goal and an assist to lead Springfield College to a 6-1 victory over Westfield State in the women’s soccer season opener for both teams.
Kovacs scored in the ninth minute after taking a short cross from Bongiovanni. Halfway through the first half, Bongiovanni scored on a beautiful header just outside the left post from a direct kick by junior
Nora Clark (Springfield, Mass.).
The Pride took a 3-0 halftime lead on a Desrocher goal. She added her second goal in the 65th minute. Westfield made the score 4-1 with 10 minutes remaiing on a goal by sophomore forward Katelyne McMillan, following Elizabeth Rosales direct kick just over the outstretched arms of the SC goalie.
