



Wellesley, Mass. - November 10, 2011 - Five members of the Springfield College field hockey team were honored for their academic success as they were named to the 2011 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Field Hockey Academic All-Conference Team on Thursday. Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2011 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
The five student-athletes named to the all-academic team included Kelly Gallo, MaryKate Murray, Anna Ragonese, Hayden Riley, and Kayla Sokol.
The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 10 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
After nine years as head coach of the Pride, Melissa Sharpe has continued the tradition of winning on the field hockey turf, posting an impressive 130-68 record, good for a winning percentage of .656 at the helm of her alma mater. Read more.
