DiPaolo Honored as NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- September 8, 2008
-- After leading the women's cross country team to a second-place finish this weekend at the Amherst Invitational, Amanda DiPaolo
has been selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Athlete of the Week.
The Garrison, N.Y. paced the Pride as she took first place out of 75 runners at Amherst College on Saturday afternoon. DiPaolo DiPaolo led the Pride in its impressive showing with her time of 20:17.4.
As a team, Springfield placed second out of six teams with 45 points, while Amherst, ranked #1 in the nation in Division III, won the event with 43 points. In third place Wheaton with 85 points, followed by Smith College in fourth with 98 points. In fifth place was St. Anselm with 116, and in sixth placed Merrimack finished with 145 points.

Jim Pennington enters his 28th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2011-2012. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
