SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- September 29, 2008 -- Mike Griffin has been selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week after having a solid performance this weekend at the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College.Griffin, a native of Scarborough, Maine. led the Pride to a seventh-place finish out of 18 teams in the event.
Personally, Griffin finished the 8k course in sixth place out of 205 runners in a time of 26:39. In the race, Griffin averaged a 5:22 mile en route to finishing in sixth among some of the top competition in the region.
Bryan Brown will enter his second season as the head men's cross country coach in the fall of 2012. Brown, who was a former All-American at Springfield College in track, led Springfield to a second-place finish at the NEWMAC Championships a year ago .
