Men's Lacrosse Drops 11-7 Decision At Middlebury
MIDDLEBURY, Vt., March 19, 2003 - Top-ranked Middlebury held off a late-charge from visiting Springfield College and posted an 11-7 victory on Wednesday at Kohn Field.
SC junior
Paul Purdy (Brewster, N.Y.) paced the Pride (1-1) with three goals, and freshman
Taylor Brown (Portsmouth, R.I.) added a goal and two assists. Junior
Craig Gibson (South Salem, Mass.), junior
Shawn Harrington (Suffern, N.Y.) and sophomore
Brian Endicott (Malden, Mass.) each had a goal.
For Middlebury (3-0), Mike Saraceni scored three times.
The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but SC rallied back to score a late first-quarter goal and an early second-quarter goal to close the gap to 3-2. Middlebury scored the next four goals to extend the lead to 7-2, and held a 7-3 advantage at the half.
The Panthers maintained a five-goal lead (9-4) heading into the fourth quarter. SC scored three times in the fourth, however, including Purdy's tally early in the quarter to make it 9-5. Middlebury responded with two goals to push its lead to 11-5 with 10:03 to play.
