Martin, Jenkins Lead Women's Track to Victory in Tri-Meet

Springfield, Mass. -- April 13, 2013 -- Amanda Martin and Laurie Jenkins proved to be key contributors in Springfield College's team victories over WPI and Coast Guard in a track & field tri-meet this afternoon at SC's Blake Track. The Pride scored 155 points to WPI's 151 and Coast Guard's 83.

Both Martin and Jenkins captured two events on the day.

A sophomore, Martin was victorious in the long jump with a leap of 17-feet, 1/2-inch as Springfield finished 1-2-3-4-6 in the event. Martin was also a winner in the triple jump with a leap of 36-feet, 11-inches. In that event, SC also dominated by finishing 1-2-3-5.

Jenkins was equally as important as she led the Pride to victories in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes. Her winning time in the 100 was 12.39 seconds, .23 seconds better than fellow-senior Crystal Davis. SC finished 1-2-3-4-6-7 in that event.

Jenkins also placed first in the 200 with a time of 25.62 seconds. And was instrumental in SC's victory in the 4x100 meter relay in a time of 48.92 seconds.

Others from Springfield College were winners on the afternoon. Junior Gabriella Gaudreault earned the victory in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.95. And senior Rhian Duggan took the pole vault in 10-feet, 6-inches.

Those who contributed to the 100 meter dash included sophomore Elizabeth Saia (12.71 seconds) in third, freshman Kimeisha Winkle (13.02) in fourth, sophomore Alexandra Shaw (13.31) in sixth, and freshman Darian Dailey (13.34) in seventh.

Contributing to the long jump, besides Martin, were Dailey (16-feet, 8 1/2-inches) in second, Shaw (16-feet, 2 1/4-inches) in third, freshman Jessica Miller (15-feet, 11 3/4-inches) in fourth, and freshman Erin Womboldt (15-feet, 6-inches) in sixth.

Miller also took a second in the 400 meter dash (1:00.78). Others placing second for the Pride included junior Erica Fisher (19:40.75) in the 5000 meters, senior Bethany Young in the 400 meter hurdles, sophomore Brianna Hill (34-feet, 5 3/4-inches) in the triple jump, and senior Colleen Brague (118-feet, 7-inches) in the javelin throw.

Also finishing first for SC was the quartet in the 4x400 meter relay (4:04.87).
