



Providence, R.I. -– February 12, 2011 -- The Johnson & Wales University wrestling team swept a tri-match with Plymouth State and Springfield this afternoon at the Harborside Recreation Center. JWU posted a 2-0 mark while Springfield was 1-1. Plymouth State was 0-2 for the afternoon. Joe Grippi at 133 and Ron Fusco at heavyweight were double winners for the Pride.The day opened with a 42-3 victory by Springfield over Plymouth State. The Pride won nine of the 10 matches, including three via pin. Springfield junior Ryan McGilvray (Manaiapan, N.J.) recorded a win by pin in just 0:50 for the victory at 149 pounds.
In the second contest of the day, JWU posted a 24-15 win against Plymouth State. JWU senior All-American Brennan Ward (Waterford, Conn.) posted a 19-3 technical fall victory at 184 pounds. Sophomore Humphrey Swift (Danbury, Conn.) had a win via pin in just 0:17 at 285 while junior 149 pounder TJ Webster (Markham, Ill.) had a win by pin in a time of 5:56 in the victory for the Wildcats.
In the final contest of the day, JWU verses Springfield. Ward continued his impressive season with a win by pin in a time of 4:03. The match at 149 pounds saw two of the top wrestlers in that weight class in New England batle as Webster recorded a pin over McGilvray at the 2:50 mark of the first period to put the Wildcats up 18-10. The Pride then took the next two matches, including a forfeit at 165 pounds to take a 19-18 lead. In the final and deciding match of the day, sophomore Colin Lenhardt (Hayes, Va.) notched a pin in a time of 6:39 to propel JWU to the 24-19 victory.
After the day of competition, Johnson & Wales is now 14-6-1 while Springfield is 12-6. Plymouth State falls to 9-5 for the season.
Springfield's dual-meet competition ended today. The Pride will next prepare for the New England Wrestling Association Championships Saturday and Sunday, February 26-27 at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.

Jason Holder will enter his third season as head wrestling coach in 2013. Holder had a standout first season at the helm of the Pride, leading Springfield to the NEWA Duals Championship and taking three wrestlers to the NCAA Championships.
