



Complete ResultsSpringfield, Mass. - January 21, 2012 - The Springfield College women’s indoor track and field team finished fourth in a home meet featuring 10 teams in the Springfield College Field House on Saturday afternoon, tallying 68 points for the meet.
MIT won the event with 163 points total. Tufts was the runner-up with 89 points, followed by Wheaton (75), Springfield, and Keene State (47) to round out the top five.
Senior standout Kelly Curtis scored in multiple events for the Pride women, taking fourth place in the 60 meter hurdles and fourth in the long jump. Curtis ran a time of 9.47 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles and leapt 16’8” in the long jump to secure points for Springfield.
Laurie Jenkins was also a top scorer for Springfield, taking third place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.07 seconds, just one-hundredth of a second out of second place. Gabriella Gaudreault finished fifth in the 400 meter event at 1:01.31, Jenn Kapinos placed eighth in the 800 meter in 1:44.49, and Nora Letendre grabbed fourth place in the 5000 meter event in 19:53.71.
The Pride also fared well in the relay events, taking second in both the 4x200 meter and 4x400 meter relays and fourth in the 4x800 meter event. In the 4x200, the foursome of Crystal Davis, Elizabeth Saia, Gaudreault, and Jenkins posted a time of 1:47.51 to finish just .4 seconds out of first. In the 4x400, Kathryn Schumann, Gaudreault, Kapinos, and Bethany Young crossed the finish line in 4:11.87. Michelle Mirti, Nicole DeChristoforo, Gabrielle Williams, and Erica Fisher clocked in at 10:29.63 in the 4x800 meter.
In other field events, Springfield secured points from Rhiann Duggan and Schumann in the pole vault, as the pair reached heights of 10’6” and 10’, respectively, and Amanda Martin in the triple jump with a distance of 35’8”.
Jim Pennington enters his 29th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2012-2013. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
