Wrestling's Poloskey Is Fifth At NCAA Championships
, March 8, 2003 -- Springfield College senior Keith Poloskey (Middle Island, N.Y.)
finished fifth in the 141-pound division for the second consecutive season at this weekend's NCAA Division III National Championship held at Ohio Northern University.
Poloskey earned All-America honors for the third season. He joins Rich Monroe '76 (four times) and Jeff Blatnick '79 as the only SC wrestlers to accomplish that feat.
Poloskey defeated Luther's Jell Patzke, 18-5, in his first match. In the second round, he beat Augustana's Matt Kapraun, 14-6, then dropped a 3-2 decision to Jim Morgan of Kings. In the consolation bracket, Poloskey fell to Augsburg's Jamie Tidwell, 13-9, before again beating Kapraun, 8-7, by decision.
SC's other entrant in the championships, senior Bill Ivatts (Foxboro, Mass.)
, was making his second straight appearance at the NCAA Championships at 149 pounds. Ivatts lost to Wartburg's Bart Mehlert, 9-0, then fell to Loras' Chris Vogel in the consolation bracket.
Head Coach Jason Holder
Jason Holder will enter his second season as head wrestling coach in 2012. Holder had a standout first season at the helm of the Pride, leading Springfield to the NEWA Duals Championship and taking three wrestlers to the NCAA Championships.
