



BOSTON, October 9, 2006 – Mike Griffin and Alyssa Brigham led all Springfield College finishers at the Open New England Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park in Boston this past Saturday.
As a team, the Springfield men placed 33rd of 45 with a score of 930, three places better than last year. The Springfield women placed 39th of 46 teams with a score of 1104. All divisions were included in these championships.
On the men’s side, Griffin, a sophomore from Scarborough, Maine, finished 124th overall with a time of 26:12. Behind him were junior Ian Wright (Colonie, N.Y.) (180th, 26:50), junior Jeff Bartlett (West Newbury, Mass.) (201st, 27:05), sophomore T.J. Potenza (Cranston, R.I.) (207th, 27:11), senior Nate McMahon (Millis, Mass.) (237th, 27:38), and senior tri-captain Ryan Palmison (Plymouth, N.H.) (238th, 27:41).
On the women’s side, Brigham, a junior co-captain from Penacook, N.H., finished 82nd overall with a time of 19:03. Behind her were junior co-captain Jess Borsotti (Westfield, Mass.) (204th, 20:11), sophomore Lara Dalidowitz (Southington, Conn.) (239th, 20:41), freshman Allison Vander Werff (Golden Bridge, N.Y.) (289th, 22:09), freshman Emma Lang (Woodstock, N.Y.) (290th, 22:11), and sophomore Christina Slot (Cheshire, Conn.) (300th, 22:40).
Both the men and women are at SUNY Albany next Saturday, October 14th. After that, both teams will prepare for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships at Mount Holyoke College on Saturday, October 28th.
Jim Pennington enters his 28th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2011-2012. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
