



Springfield, Mass. - April 13, 2009 - For the second time this season, Steve Headley has been chosen as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Track Athlete of the Week.This marks the third straight week that a member of Ken Klatka's track and field squad has been honored by the conference office. Headley took home the honor the first week after qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the 100, while teammate Nickel Hay was awarded the honor after a standout performance as the Pride won a five-way meet last Saturday at home.
The Wilbraham, Mass. product motored the Pride to a second-place finish in a tri-meet with NEWMAC foes WPI and Coast Guard on Saturday. Despite losing to Coast Guard by just one point, Headley paced Springfield as he cruised to victory in the 100 in 10.63 and followed that up with a first-place finish in the 200 meters after crossing the finish line in 22.04. The junior also anchored the 4x100 relay team that finished first in 42.29.

Ken Klatka, just inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in October, 2011, enters his 37th season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2012-2013. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
