Golf Off To Anything But A Subpar Start
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sept. 20, 2004 - The Springfield College men’s golf team has been on par with some of the best golf squads in the northeast to open up its 2004 campaign.
A relatively young SC team placed in the top-20, tying for 19th in its latest outing at the Williams Invitational, Sept. 18-19. The Pride totaled 336 as a team.
Freshman
Paul Chmura (Chicopee, Mass.) and fellow freshman
Joe Tesori (Dewitt, N.Y.) led the way for the Pride, each shooting 83 on a very challenging course that saw only one golfer break par.
The season-opening Blazers Invitational, hosted by Elms College, was even more impressive for head coach
Joe Eadie's squad.
The Pride finished third out of 10 teams with a combined score of 317. Once again, Chumura was the pace-setter for the Pride finishing second with a three-over 74 on the 6,742-yard course.
Freshman
Matt McCarthy (Springfield, Mass.) was also notable in his first college tournament carding a five-over par 76 and finishing in seventh place.
