Springfield had six student athletes selected as National Collegiate Men’s Gymnastics National Qualifiers by the NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Committee. The national qualifier, which consists of two pre-qualifying sessions, will be conducted April 16.
Three teams and the top three all-around competitors not on one of the qualifying teams, plus the top three individuals on each event not already qualified on a team or as an all-around competitor, will advance from each pre-qualifying session to the finals session. Final competitions will take place April 17-18, also at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
Springfield's Ty Evans and Josh Fox were both selected to compete in the all-around competition. Evans owned a qualifying score of 82.480, while Fox qualified with a mark of 82.430.
Matt Bolognese, who won the EIGL Still Ring Championship last weekend, will compete in the still rings after qualifying with a score of 14.850. Teammate Andy Kelly will represent Springfield in the parallel bars with a qualifying score of 13.810. On the vault, Keith Stumpf will compete after qualifying with a 15.230. Rounding out the Pride's representatives is Michael Freundlich, who qualified on the horizontal bar with a mark of 13.520.
